VEHICLE CONTROL MODULE
The VCM (Vehicle Control Module) is a small, simple device that mounts in the vehicle in easy reach of the driver/operator. It has a “probe” on its front surface where an MTi-Button is touched to collect vehicle various data for fueling. The VCM also has a two-color LED indicator that is used to signal success or failure when an MTi-Button is being programmed. The VCM also has a “beeper” that makes a sound to let the driver know when the MTi-Button has been successfully programmed.
The VCM (Vehicle Control Module) should be mounted in the driver’s compartment area where it can be easily reached to touch the driver’s MTi-Button. There are holes for securing the unit with two #6-32 or similar screws, or it can be attached by other methods. A single small cable runs from the bottom of the VCM to the vehicle electrical system. A connector allows the VCM to be removed at any time, and for the electrical connections to be made without the VCM present.
The VCM requires operating power (12 or 24 VDC). The installer needs to connect the RED wire to a constant (i.e. always on) source of +12V or +24V DC, and the black wire to a suitable electrical ground.
The third wire (Orange) needs to be connected to a point in the electrical system that will be at a ground potential when the engine is running. This signal is used to compute engine running hours. Not all vehicles have the same signals available. Some vehicles have a specific tachometer signal for this purpose. Another potential connection is to an oil pressure switch that goes to ground level when pressure is up (when the engine is running). If there is no engine running signal available, connect the orange wire to ground.
